Pela joined OXGENE in 2019 to lead the gene editing pipeline for the high-throughput generation of CRISPR/Cas9-engineered cells, combining scientific, operations and project management experience. Prior to joining OXGENE, she held positions in academia and industry with a focus on understanding the genetic basis of human neurological disorders. She has helped set up brand-new cell and molecular biology laboratories, led research programmes on the development of medium-throughput functional validation of variants identified in genetic disorders and contributed towards adapting and functionalising synthetic cells for therapies. Pela holds a PhD in Neurological Studies from the UCL Institute of Neurology.
At OXGENE, Pela enjoys building teams and supporting her colleagues to grow and develop their skills. She also likes solving problems, both scientific and operational, to ensure that OXGENE delivers the best science for our customers. She values the emphasis placed by OXGENE on inclusiveness, teamwork and collaboration.
Pela is motivated by inspirational women in science and business operations. Outside of work, Pela enjoys spending time with her family and giving new experiences to her two little boys. She also enjoys travelling, fine dining, baking and crossfit.
